Johann Wolff became a name people search for, not just stumble on

A premium eyewear brand with beautiful frames and almost no non-brand discovery. Over a four-year partnership we built the organic presence that put it in front of buyers researching their next pair.

TIMELINE
4-year partnership
Overview

Johann Wolff handcrafts premium sunglasses and optical frames, and the product was never the problem. The site ranked for the brand name and almost nothing else, so every non-brand buyer researching frame shapes, materials, or styles found a big-box optical retailer instead. Over a four-year partnership we rebuilt the collection and product pages, built the guides people actually search before buying glasses, and cleaned up the technical foundation. Organic revenue rose 186 percent, non-brand organic clicks 212 percent, and the brand went from a single ranking page to owning the searches that lead to a purchase.

01 / THE STARTING POINT

Beautiful frames, invisible in search.

People do not shop for eyewear by brand until they already know it. They search by shape, by material, by face shape, and by occasion: round acetate frames, titanium sunglasses, glasses for a round face. Johann Wolff ranked cleanly for its own name, but for every one of those non-brand searches the answer was a marketplace or a national optical chain. A brand with a genuinely distinctive product was invisible at the exact moment a buyer was deciding what to buy.

Underneath that sat a structural problem. Collection pages were thin and near-duplicate, there was no editorial content on frame shapes, lens types, or face-shape fit, and the internal linking never carried authority from the few pages that ranked into the products that sell. The catalog also carried the usual ecommerce debt: duplicate parameter URLs, slow product templates, and weak metadata across the collection.

02 / WHAT WE DID

Own the way people actually shop for glasses

We stopped optimizing the brand name and started building for how eyewear is really searched. Every frame shape, material, lens type, and face-shape question became a page, each collection was rebuilt to rank and to convert, and the internal linking was rewired to carry readers from a styling question into the frames that answer it. Fewer, deeper, better pages, aimed at the searches that end in a purchase.

The eyewear content and collection engineWe mapped the full space of non-brand eyewear searches, then built face-shape fit guides, frame-shape and material explainers, and lens and care content, all structured to win featured snippets. In parallel we rebuilt the collection and product pages with unique, useful copy and wired an internal link mesh from every guide into the relevant frames.style and fit guidescollection rebuildinternal link mesh
Collection and product SEORebuilt thin, duplicate collection pages into unique, rankable pages and fixed the parameter, speed, and metadata debt across the catalog.
Frame and fit contentBuilt the guides people read before buying glasses: face-shape fit, frame shapes, acetate versus metal, sunglasses versus optical, and lens options.
Product-page CROTightened the path from a guide to the product page and the product page to checkout, so the new traffic actually converted.

03 / WHAT CHANGED

The frames now get found before the purchase

Four years in, Johann Wolff was no longer a brand you had to already know. The guides ranked in the answer positions for how people actually search for eyewear, the rebuilt collections converted the traffic, and organic became a compounding revenue channel instead of a brand-name afterthought.
