A supplement brand turned organic search into its biggest new-customer channel
A fast-growing botanical wellness brand selling direct on Shopify, competing against marketplaces and supplement giants in one of the strictest categories in search. We built the content and trust signals that let it win anyway.
This healthcare supplement brand had a loyal customer base and a strong product line, but almost all of its new customers came through paid social, and acquisition costs kept climbing. Organic search was a rounding error: health queries are held to a higher standard by Google, and the site had thin product pages, no expert-reviewed content, and nothing an AI answer engine would cite. Over three years we rebuilt the product and collection pages, built a medically reviewed education library, and made the brand the source answer engines quote on its ingredients. Organic revenue rose 241 percent and organic became the largest source of first-time buyers.
A health category where thin content does not rank.
Supplements sit squarely in Google's "your money or your life" territory. Rankings go to pages that show real expertise, cite research, and are reviewed by qualified people. The brand's site had short product descriptions, no author or reviewer credentials, and no educational content on the ingredients it sold. Marketplaces and large supplement retailers took every non-brand query, and AI answers quoted health publishers instead.
Meanwhile the business leaned almost entirely on paid social to find new customers. Every price increase from the ad platforms went straight to the cost of growth. Leadership wanted a channel the company owned, one that would keep producing customers without a matching rise in spend.
Earn trust first, then own the ingredient searches
We treated trust as the ranking factor it is in health. Every page got a clear author, a qualified reviewer, and cited sources. Then we built the library that answers what buyers actually ask before they try a supplement: what an ingredient does, how much to take, how it compares, and whether it is safe with what they already use.

A customer channel the brand owns
Three years in, organic search was the brand's largest source of first-time buyers, AI answer engines quoted it on its own ingredients, and blended acquisition cost fell because a growing share of new customers no longer had to be bought.
